This brings me to one of the greatest concerts I've ever attended. Not just the concert, everything that surrounded it. Sit back and let me weave this tale. I am flying solo to this show and maybe for the best.
As you can see it has a 5:30om ticket time. I leave work early and stop by Chesapeake Bay Seafood for dinner. With a full belly, I had over to the New Carrollton Metro station to take me to the show. This has worked great in the past, no reason to think it won't this time.
This is the first show of this stadium tour. I get into the stadium, get settled in my seat (which was pretty good on the side of the stage, close to the stage). Faith No More opens the show, and did a great performance. The crowd really appreciated them.
The stage changes around and Metallica comes on around 7:00pm. This is my first time seeing them and I'm blown away! We they took the stage and said, 'How are you Motherfuckers doin'?!' I don't think I was called an M'F'r by a band before, but I went with it. I think they knew a lot of the crowd were new to their music and gave an introduction to a few songs to bring you up to speed. They played a full setlist and it was great! They left the stage around 10:00pm and it was time to get ready for GnR!
The crowd is waiting, and waiting. 11:00pm comes and goes. They start panning the cameras around the audience and the girls were flashing their boobs! This was a rock and roll concert for the ages! This went on for 30-45 minutes. As a 24 year old young buck, this was phenomenal! And the girls were girl age, not of 50 somethings list we are now.
On the display screens the stadium authority stated that the Metro stopped running at 12:30am. NAHHH! They know there are 50 thousand people at RFK stadium, they wouldn't stop the Metro from running.
Finally, GnR rook the stage shortly after midnight. And put on a hell of a show! I had also move next to a girl who was totally into the show and started dancing with her. We seemed to be hitting it off pretty well. But alas, I started running my big mouth on how much I knew the music, and she moved away. I just have no game when it comes to picking up women. The story of my life.
Anyway, the show goes great and wraps up just before 3:00am. To to scoot over to the Metro station and head home, on the way out I pick up a t-shirt for Cathy (we still work together and I see her nearly everyday). She asked me to pickup a t-shirt for her nephew. I used my last $10, no big deal, I'm heading home, I don't need any money. So I get out of the stadium, and head to the Metro station. Why are all the people just sitting around? The Metro stopped running at 12:30? I guess the sign was right. Now I have no money and no way back. I start walking around looking for an ATM. I was walking through a neighborhood and asked some people sitting on their porch if there was an ATM around. They said no, and 'Please leave this neighborhood!' I know when to go.
Back at the stadium the start running some buses. I get on, and got someone to pay way way. It went away from the stadium and I got out. Found an ATM, and found a taxi as a gas station. Now I'm making progress! The taxi was kind of a rip-off, but it got me back to the New Carrollton Metro station. I am coming through the station and there is a couple there and they ask if I could give them a ride, their car broke down on the way in. It's now about 4:30am. Why not, I give them a ride out to the car, the problem seemed to be that the radiator over heated and they had water for it. I'm watching them from the car. The guy pours it in the top of the radiator, and it drains right out he bottom. The look on the guys face was just OMG, what now? He came back over to the car, I asked where they live, Waldorf, MD. Get in, it's 5:00am, it's not like I have a lot going on.
I get them down to Waldorf, they offered me $20, but I refused. I head home and get home around 7:00am.
WHAT A NIGHT!
