19880919 Human Rights Now!

On July 3, 1988, the Bruce Springsteen concert from Sweden was broadcast around the world. This was a HUGE event for me and Dave Brown. We got together and listened intently to the show. Near the end of the broadcast (which was just the first half of the whole concert) Bruce announced that he was joining the Human Rights Now concert tour! He played Chimes of Freedom, a Dylan cover, that has a theme of the concert tour.
We were pumped up about this, and after the Springsteen broadcast the radio announcer gave the details of where the shows would take place. We were fortunate enough that he was playing in Philadelphia, not far from us, in September. We had to go to this one! Before the tickets went on-sale we told my other best friend, Gordon Smith about the show and he was up for going too. As it turned out, it was on Gordon's birthday.
I got 4 tickets and before you know it, it was the day of the concert. I couldn't get in touch with Gordon for the day. I called his brother and he took his car in for repairs. We loaded up the car (I took a change of clothes) and we went over to the repair shop Gordon was having his car worked on. I think we supervised him when we showed up. He got in the car and off we went to Philadelphia.
I really liked the cause that the concert was supporting. Up to that point, I was unaware of the Declaration of Human Rights. It's a good thing that they are written, even though a lot of countries don't follow them.
The lineup was amazing as you can see! About the change of clothes, in my 21 year old mind, I thought it would be a great idea to dress in all black when Bruce came on, I don't know what I was thinking. I did change to black jeans and a black long-sleeve shirt.
I had a great time at the show and I think Gordon, Dave, and Cindy enjoyed it too!
